Hello

I'm Rowley, an enthusiastic and self-motivated front end developer/ UI developer from London.

I've been very fortunate to work for some fantastic clients including: Mulberry, TKMaxx, Gucci, Goodyear, Sainsbury's, Barbour and Dr. Martens to name a few.

I have over 18 years of commercial experience in front end development and a tiny dash of design. Full of energy, experience, hard work, enthusiasm, ideas, great interpersonal skills and a relaxed temperament.

My last role was with Mulberry, implementing their Amplience Headless CMS Dynamic Content, ready for Hybris integration.

2001: Work History

My first ever website creation was for the humble Portobello Festival in 2001.

Since then I've worked on many more amazing projects with some fantastic clients: agencies, financial institutions, retailers and some humble startups.

I've worked within numerous different work frameworks and content management systems, including: Hybris, Demandware, ad-hoc (home-made) and the simple static framework. But I'm very comfortable working within any kind of system or framework there is, new or old.

Last role

My last role was at Mulberry, implementing Amplience Headless CMS Dynamic Content within their site. As this was my first time working with Amplience and I hadn't used Handlebars (the technology used by Amplience) for years, it was certainly challenging but extremely rewarding.

Skills

Originally I came from a design background; creating logos, leaflets and flat web designs. But after a couple of years I discovered the interactivity of web design, and then front end development. I enjoyed coding so much I immediately switched my working role ambition. After buying 5 extremely thick tutorial books and hunkering down to learn, I was set to go.

I love the constant changes in my role; changing technologies and work practices. A constantly evolving industry that always keeps me on my toes and challenges me.

My core skills would be: css/sass, html, responsive layouts, jquery/ javascript and working within most known frameworks.

Lately I've been learning React, ES6 and JSX

Admittedly I'm at the early stages but am gaining confidence with it gradually. The best way to learn is with practice, so one of my goals is to convert this site to a React App.

Goal 1

Convert this site to ReactJS, with some ES6 goodness.

Mulberry

Rowley has worked at Mulberry on several occasions over the last couple of years and each time he slotted right into the team and helped us to deliver the UI on a variety of different sized projects.

His meticulous attention to detail, couple with his zen-like personality made for a great colleague each time Rowley worked for us.

He has a great ability to work under his own steam and was able to get on with projects with little to no supervision - his knowledge of the Hybris platform and all of our systems that we use to develop on it meant that we were able to give the UI work over and know that Rowley would get straight on with it and present back in a timely fashion a quality of work that matched the brand.

Travel

...is a pretty big part of my life. When I'm not busy working I like to pack up my backpack and discover a new country to travel around.

In the very distant past I've lived and traveled extensively in Africa. And more recently have travelled throughout North America, Mexico, Central America, South America, South-east Asia and Oceania.

I've even written a travel diary book based on my backpacking trip around the World in 2007. It's ranked an astonishingly modest #2,273,159 in books on Amazon.
